Pine Ridge
Cultural Immersion
MAY 19-24, 2019
We are traveling to the Pine Ridge Retreat Center, a joint Lutheran and Presbyterian ministry called to serve alongside the people of the Oglala Sioux on the Pine Ridge Reservation of South Dakota. The Pine Ridge Retreat Center is based on the concept of Mitakuye Oyasin – We are all related. The ministry of the Pine Ridge Retreat Center fosters mutual trust, respect, and understanding, while addressing the deep poverty that exists on the reservation.
What we will be doing:
On May 19, we will leave following the 10:30 service and arrive at Pine Ridge at 6pm. At Pine Ridge, we will be meeting with various speakers and leaders who come and share the story of their lives and culture. We will be visiting the site of the Wounded Knee Massacre and likely spend some time working with the Lutheran/Lakota Job Corp.
Cost: The Cost of the trip will be $400 per person which covers all travel, food, program, and lodging. Each member is invited to commit to whatever part of this cost they can cover, from $100 to the full $400 so that cost will prevent no person from being present.
